Mobility program
For students, the most relevant outcome from the UMANE project will be the achievement of an international experience, that will improve their academic portfolio as well as the opportunity to spend their knowledge in the international labor market. Furthermore, they will improve their language skills and spend a whole year in one or the other side of the Atlantic. To achieve these goals, a specific mobility program has been designed for EU and US students, which allows students to visit more than one foreign University. The mobility program is explained in figure 1. Specifically:
- EU students will move to the second EU partner institution (Parma to Extremadura or Valencia) and Extremadura or Valencia to Parma) during their third year of study to attend one semester at the EU partner institution
- EU students (both from Parma, Valencia and Extremadura) will attend their fourth year at one of the US universities for one full academic year. Primary destination of EU-to-US mobility is the NJIT, where students are expected to spend the whole mobility period. Nonetheless, at their convenience and according to their study plan, students may choose to attend some specific courses at Rutgers’ University
- US students will move to the EU during their third year for the attendance of the whole academic year (2 semesters) to attend the Universidad de Extremadura or the Universidad Politècnica de Valencia during the first semester (September to February) and the University of Parma during their second semester (March to August) in the EU
As a further outcome, students involved in the UMANE dual degree program will develop specific skills and knowledge in the field of Engineering Management and Supply Chain Management. In this regard, it is expected that through the UMANE dual degree program, students will experience a significant improvement in courses and teaching activities, thanks to the international experience made available at each different university. As regards to contents, it has been agreed to focus the dual degree program on the field of Management Engineering, with a particular focus on Supply Chain Management, Operations Management and Industrial Engineering, with specific skills in the Food Industry. Due to the relevance of such themes for industrial engineers, it is strongly believed that such a dual degree program is needed and desirable.
Finally, through the international dual degree program, we trust in improving students’ achievements and knowledge in the thematic fields mentioned, with the ultimate aim of leading them to find interesting and stimulating job opportunities and achieving relevant positions in the industry.
