Universidad de Extremadura (Spain)

Founded in 1973, the UEx, with over 24,000 students enrolled, is nowadays a dynamic institution, which is still in the process of growing. The University has campuses in Badajoz, Cáceres, Mérida and Plasencia, towns which preserve their rich historical past (two are World Heritage Centres). These strategic locations allow for a wide dissemination of the University’s teaching throughout Extremadura, while offering international students varied activities, life styles, and, above all, the hospitality of their peoples in a unique geographical location, which is a stone’s throw from cities like Madrid or Seville or the border with Portugal.

The undergraduate degree programmes are designed to serve the interests of students while meeting the needs of the society in which the University is embedded. Surfing the UEx website reveals that the different Schools and Faculties offer degree programmes that range from the more traditional to the most up-to-date, although, in all cases, the approach is in line with modern European guidelines and an increasing emphasis on offering opportunities for work experience that will ease graduates’ entry to the job market. Furthermore, the UEx offers post-graduate, Master’s and Doctorate courses and programmes inspired and implemented by its prestigious research groups.

The UEx embodies 17 own centres and two more that are attached, in which there are 149 different areas of knowledge. As far as Uex range offered is regarded:

  • 75 Degree and first cycle and second cycle Degrees.
  • 15 Second cycle of long cycle Degrees.
  • 5 Double Degrees.
  • 24 University Master’s Degrees.
  • 16 University Master’s research Degrees.

The University of Extremadura is strongly committed to continuously improving the quality of its activities and the service it provides to society, both in the field of research, seeking excellence in its groups and in carrying out research that is increasingly embedded in the local area where it takes place, translating into a true engine for regional development, as well as in the teaching sphere, offering a range of studies designed according to quality criteria to enable students to obtain degrees that prepare them perfectly to join the labour market, start their own businesses and generate wealth.

This commitment to quality has meant that, since 2009, all the Centres have had Quality Assurance Systems (QAS) positively certified by ANECA (National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation), while the DOCENTIA-UEx Programme, also certified by ANECA, to Evaluate Professors’ Teaching Activity, has also been set up.

The ever-growing number of UEx staff involved in improving the quality of the institution is making it possible to extend the culture of continuous improvement to a larger number of activities and services.
